The Montbell UL Super Spiral Down Hugger #5 is an incredibly lightweight and warm 40 degree sleeping bag. Equipped with the comfort of the Super Spiral Stretch System, and the warmth of 800-Fill down.
Montbell's Super Spiral Stretch System was born out of a desire to have a form-fitting sleeping bag that would let you move freely. A bag with a close fit for thermal efficiency, yet a stretch fit for comfort. These two conflicting principles led Montbell to create their Super Spiral Stretch System for sleeping bags that fit like a glove but give you room to move.
With Montbell's Super Spiral Stretch System you get a closer fit which means one thing: a warmer more efficient bag. Montbell uses an elastic stitching technique to draw the insulation closer to your body and keep heat in the bag where it belongs. This stops drafts, eliminates cold spots and improves the bag's thermal efficiency by reducing the volume of air your body needs to heat.
With the Super Spiral Stretch System, you'll experience excellent freedom of movement. The durable, elastic stitching gently stretches with you as you move. The result is a bag that keeps you toasty warm while accommodating changes in position.
In a standard bag, large pockets of down tend to flatten out and lose their loft and warmth. To combat this problem, Montbell uses Spiral-box construction to partition each down filled compartment into sections. Each of the resulting sections have flow gate panels to reduce down migration. Because each cell is small, the down maintains its loft. And, with greater loft and a closer fit, less fill is needed to keep you warmer.
An adjustable hood improves warmth around your head and face. The inner draft cover reduces air circulation through the zipper area. Auto locking zipper has been integrated to limit zipper slip during the night. Right and Left zip models can be zipped together.
Ballistic Airlight™ - 12-denier Ballistic Airlight™ nylon is astoundingly thin, weighing less than half of a 45-denier nylon of normal shells while offering similar strength. This strength comes from the manufacturing process where the nylon is repeatedly stretched to align the molecules, much like the tensilizing of steel, resulting in an extremely light weight, wind resistant, breathable and water resistant fabric.
Polkatex™ DWR - Elite best water repellant performance. Unlike other water repellent treatments, Polkatex™ DWR will retain its ability to keep you dry wear after wear, and wash after wash. Polkatex™ is a water based treatment with a fluorine finish that adheres to the fibers in treated fabrics to provide excellent water resistance. Polkatex™ also contains a cushioning agent that fills in the molecular bonds, giving them a unique elasticity. This elasticity allows the bonds to rebound from abrasion, and resist degradation from harsh detergents and oils. Polkatex™ is so durable that even after 100 washings it still retains 90% of its original repellency.
